Glebe House | Egerton House
Francis Thicknesse commissioned a new mock-Tudor vicarage built in the far end of his extended churchyard. He had planned to demolish the church and build a new one in its place, but didn’t get that far. The Glebe House vicarage later became used as a school, Egerton House School. This was a school for girls until after the end of the Second World War and then a school for boys until it was closed in the 1970s. It remained empty and derelict for some years before it was demolished to make way for new housing.
